The MADURA Program - Mentorship for Advancing Diversity in Undergraduate Research on Aging is a training opportunity funded by the NIH National Institute on Aging (Steven Edland, PI; R25 AG066504)

For whom? 

  • UC San Diego undergraduates who are underrepresented in a health, medical, or STEM majors. 
  • Sophomore level graduates or beyond may apply
  • Students must have an interest in careers in Aging or Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) research or clinical services 
  • Students in Medical, Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (MSTEM) majors are especially encouraged to apply.
  • Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA

Additional Eligibility Requirements

 What? 

  • 8 hours/week of paid research experiences, with UC San Diego faculty researchers focused on Aging and/or Alzheimer’s disease topics. Students will be matched with research projects most closely aligned with their interests, and academic goals.
  • 2 hours/week of paid, faculty-led Group training and mentorship support, from UC San Diego Professors every Friday, 2:00 to 4:00pm in person on School of Medicine campus (Required for all student participants.)

  • To increase applications for graduate studies in Aging and Alzheimer’s research-related fields
  • To increase participation in Aging and Alzheimer’s-related MSTEM clinical careers
  • To improve diversity in aging and Alzheimer disease (AD) studies 

When?

  • The application window for the 2024-2025 academic year will be open May 1st - July 1st, 2024.
